Bedford

A map of Indiana with Bedford located.

Bedford is the county seat of Lawrence county and is known as "Limestone Capitol of the World". Many famous buildings including the "Empire State Building" was built of stone from this area.

Somehow I have never been to Bedford for a lengthy time but did pass through again and managed to get a few photos after leaving Springmill State Park on June 29, 2010.

This statue stands on the west side of the courthouse. Not the best time or position for a good photo but it was all that was available at the time.

Courthouse square in Bedford Indiana.

Courthouse Square - East Side

Bedford is a bit hilly,  hence the raised sidewalks. This was the only side of the square that I captured all of the buildings.

This is the upper facade of the third building from the right in the photo shown above. So much pride and workmanship for  a small town store front!

Here is a closeup view of the intricate detail in the stonework. It must have been very interesting to watch the progress of building construction back then, never quite knowing what was coming next.

Moses Fell Building

Another old building with an elaborate stone facade. This one is located on the west side of the square at the south end. I am not sure about the date, perhaps when the man was born.

This concludes my photos of Bedford Indiana at this time.
