One room school

One Room School House Near Greenfield

This old school was built in 1894 and this is a morning shot of it on March 19, 2010.

Old rural school house

Head On View of the School House

An afternoon shot showing the recessed doorway.

A stream

A Stream Near Greenfield

A view of a creek at the end of winter. This shot was taken along an interesting stretch of road with a lonely ‘out of the way feel’ and a small bridge. I love these places especially when they are so near a city or a small county seat. I would love to go back to the way the land was when I was young. Of course I would have to be able to take my computer and digital camera!

Small rural bridge

A Small Country Road Bridge

This is the small bridge from where the above photo was taken and it lends itself to the area very well. It is a delight to still be able to see these types of places around here but it probably won’t last long. Some developer will have to move in and rape the land and then vanish with the money.

Country barn scene

Two Distant Barns

From near the small bridge shown above is this view of two barns in the distance. An old road, bridge, barns and fields, what could be much better in Indiana! Well...we might toss in a few of the rugged areas here and there.

Old red barn

An Old Red Barn

This is the barn to the left in the image above.

Red barn

The Old Red Barn

This barns sits across the road from the one shown above. It is a pretty 'barn red' in the sunlight.

UPDATE: I l noticed early in 2014 that this barn has been done away with. It is sad to me to see these old structures go.

A barn scene

Another View of the barn

This was a difficult shot from the nearby bridge and is about the best I could do.

An Old Italianate House Near Mt. Comfort

This old Italianate house and barn sits a good ways from the road and both will probably disappear eventually from the landscape in the not too distant future. I wouldn’t doubt that another “much needed” industrial site will eventually take it’s place.

UPDATE: This old house and all of the out buildings were demolished on December 2, 2012.

Abandoned Italianate House

A slightly different and closer view of boarded up farmhouse shown above. According to a friend, the house was lived in until 2007. These photos were taken on March 7, 2010.

This concludes the images of Hancock county at this time.
