Portland is the county seat of Jay county. I got to spend a little time there on July 1, 2010 but wish I could have taken more photos.

Remains of Oak Grove School

This abandoned school was built in 1913 and it is easy to see that it was once a beautiful structure for a rural school. It is located eight miles west-southwest of Portland in Jay County on CR200W just a short ways east of Highway 1. This photo of July 1, 2010 was taken from Highway 1, a little south of CR 200W with a zoom lens.

There isn't much of it left but the tower and that is only a matter of time.

Oak Grove School - Tower Detail

A closeup view showing the elaborate detail for just a country school of nearly a hundred years. Unfortunately, it also shows the ruination of such a fine educational structure of long ago.

Hy 1 Round Barn

This round barn sits 1.5 miles north of the old school remains shown above and 4.0 miles south of Pennville on Hy 1. There is no place to park along the highway to take a photo. I shot this photo with a zoom lens about a quarter of a mile away from someone's driveway while turning around. Looking S-SE on July 1, 2010.
