One Room Schools

PAGE 1

Shelby County

This old one roomer  was built in 1875 and was quite a find! At first I wasn't sure if it was a school or church. A peek into the front windows reveals old cloak rooms I would imagine. One door for the boys and one for the girls and each sat on their own side. No nonsense in those days!

The old barn behind the school is a good size one and I will list it under 'Barns' and 'Shelby County'.

Hancock County

This old one room school house “District #9” was built in 1898 and is located six miles southeast of Greenfield. I remember this school from nearly thirty years ago, it was in fairly good condition and the bell tower was complete. Now, it is just a matter of time…rather sad, like loosing a friend. I took this photo on August 6, 2009.

Hancock County

This school is located in a nice peaceful country setting. It was built in 1894. I will show a different view of it under 'Hancock County'.
